Company History

Cutting Edge Glass, Inc. was incorporated in January 1999 by Dale Holtorf, the company’s majority shareholder, and was open for business on February 1st. During the first four years, Cutting Edge Glass was located in Commerce City, CO and specialized in meeting the window and glass needs of the local community, as well as pursuing opportunities and fostering confidence from area general contractors through our ability to perform well on commercial construction projects.

In 2003 Cutting Edge Glass, Inc. moved to its current remodeled location at 4880 Colorado Blvd. in Denver, Colorado. Our walk-in business has expanded tremendously due to the new location while the contracting side has averaged double digit growth every year since inception.

The company started with two employees, including Dale; by the end of 2015 there were 40 full time employees. In 2015, Cutting Edge Glass, Inc. sold and installed $8.9 million dollars’ worth of glass and glazing systems. This was accomplished with a solid team effort.

Cutting Edge Glass, Inc. has evolved from being an unknown startup company to being a quality glazing subcontractor and a strong competitor with a stellar reputation in the construction industry.

Footnote: A representative from a large supplier was in our office recently. In conversation he stated, “I have never heard anything bad said about your company.”

Team Member Profiles

Dale Holtorf is the founder and major share holder of Cutting Edge Glass, Inc. Dale has a long and diverse background of workplace experiences to draw from. Dale graduated High School in 1973 and immediately started work setting forms for basement footings and foundations, then pouring the concrete. Layouts off “Batter Boards” and running a transit level were learned skills that would become part of a multifaceted experience base. Dale went on to roofing, steel studs and drywall, carpentry, operating trenchers, skid steers, and forklifts before starting with Viking Glass in Sioux Falls, South Dakota as an apprentice glazier in 1982.

Dale further added to his business knowledge base by changing professions and working for a gourmet coffee company starting in 1987. He worked his way up through the ranks over the next 10 years with this company, which was eventually acquired by Procter & Gamble Co. He was promoted to branch manager and relocated to Denver, Colorado. Although Dale appreciated the opportunity and advancement through their organization, he knew he was not cut out for corporate America. Dale has said, “Procter & Gamble taught me how to run a business… and I already knew glazing, so I put the two together.” Dale started Cutting Edge Glass, Inc. in January of 1999.

Stann Nelson was born and raised in upstate New York. He graduated from Alfred State College in 1992 with a degree in construction management. Soon after college, he started working in the commercial glass industry as an apprentice glazier. A year into this new profession, he was tapped to take over as the lead glazier on a large project, completing it without a hitch. During the next 6 years he expanded his expertise, specializing in schools, hospitals, office buildings, and large retail facilities.

In 1998 he relocated to Baltimore, Maryland. He was chosen to supervise a total window glazing system replacement on a 20 story federal building in Washington, D.C. This year long project encompassed various systems including a curtain wall, punched openings, entrances, as well as many others.

In 1999 he moved to Denver, Colorado where he accepted an estimating position at Denver West Glass. He was soon promoted to project manager. Stann’s growth in the glazing industry continued when he was chosen to manage a local branch office of a large corporate chain. They served residential, commercial, and windshield customers through their local glass business.

In 2005, Stann was recruited by Cutting Edge Glass. He excelled as an estimator for approximately two years, at which time he was promoted to general manager. In January of 2015, Stann was made President of the company. He continues to estimate and manage projects with great success, as well as oversee day to day operations.
